Fleetwood & Villy

The business, owned by fashion-lover Fleetwood Hicks and named after his dog, DeVille, was mostly funded by superstar investors Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran. In July 2011, Hicks was selected out of 10,000 applicants to appear on ABC’s Shark Tank, and was offered $500,000 by Cuban and Corcoran in exchange for a share in his company.  Since then, Hicks has hit the ground running and now has a full online operation as well as an assembly plant in the Design District at 1937 Irving Blvd.

Hicks has also received a lot of press for his success in crowdfunding $10,000 in additional funds through Rock the Post, receiving mentions in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Entrepreneur Magazine and many local publications. In only two weeks, he drew the attention of a number of individuals and reached his goal.

Come explore the Design District and grab great finds from custom made boots to an array of antiques.    Just like the past couple of days, the weather will be sunny and warm so most shops will participate in a true street sale.  Don’t miss out on scoring great deals this weekend!

Participating stores includes: Lost Antiques, Found Antiques, Scout Design Studio, Grass Roots, The Wooden House, Lucchese, Again & Again, Big Mango, Give and Take, Antiques Moderne, Ascension Coffee, Lots of Furniture, River Regency, Mary Finds, and Country Garden Antiques.

Currently the property for the planned apartment complex is occupied by warehouse and showroom buildings.  There is no word on when this project will begin since Alliance Residential is still waiting on approval from the City of Dallas. One thing’s for sure, developer Harwood International is about to begin work on a 224-unit apartment complex  at Oak Lawn Avenue and Dragon Street-dallasnews.com. We will give more details about these projects  as they come.

The Dallas Design District is more than just galleries, showrooms, and warehouses.  It has become a vibrant community that people can call home.

The two competing chefs will be FT33′s  Matt McCallister and last year’s winner,  Scott Romano of Nick & Sam’s. Restaurateur  Kent Rathbun will  provide the chefs with a basket of goods including secret ingredients  from event sponsor  Whole Foods . The chefs’ creations will be judged by a panel of local food experts  for a chance to win the Iron Fork Award. Guests will enjoy the chefs’ challenge,  live music, tastings from local restaurants, and wine and cocktail samplings.

VIP guests are treated to early admission with food, wine, cocktail, and beer sampling, complimentary valet parking before 6:30 pm,   and a gift bag. A portion of the proceeds will benefit March of Dimes, a charity that help moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies.  Guests must be 21+ to attend. If you love food as much as I do, then this is where you need to be on May 8th!

Phase 1 consists of 2.5 miles of concrete trail along the old river channel, traveling from the intersection of Oak Lawn Avenue and Stemmons Freeway to Farrington Street.

This spring’s Gallery Walk will be on Saturday, April 20th, and includes guided tours of all of DADA’s member galleries. Those who want to bike to the event will meet at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center at 1:30 p.m. and pedal on over to the Design District. Member galleries include:

Starting at 9 pm on Saturday,  April 20th, Circuit12 Contemporary will be hosting Neon Sessions. Neon Sessions is a  bi-monthly event aimed at gathering local, homegrown creativity in the electronic music scene. They will be featuring new and local artists, while bringing together beat makers, musicians, and anyone who appreciates music and new sounds.

There will be live musical sets from:
